SALON OF NATIONAL AND FOREIGN GRAPPA AND DISTILLATES
GARGANO AND CAPOVILLA TO TAKE PART IN THIS SPECIALIST EVENT
Trieste 7 September - “SpiriTS & Co. – Salon of National and Foreign Grappa and Distillates” is the new appointment organised by Fiera Trieste Spa. Following on from the accredited and international specialist fairs Trieste Espresso Expo and Olio Capitale, Fiera Trieste’s range of events is widening this year, to include a new specialist trade fair SpiriTS & Co., dedicated exclusively to national and foreign grappas and distillates, and scheduled to take place in Trieste from 12 to 14 November 2009.
Organised with sponsorship from ING – Istituto Nazionale Grappa (National Grappa Institute), the exhibition is dedicated exclusively to this sector; as well as involving the public, the fair has set itself the goal of becoming the reference point for distributors, importers and trade professionals who through this specialist event will have access to new markets, as well as an opportunity to discover some of the best labels of the enterprises present at SpiriTS & Co.
SpiriTS & Co. will see the participation of top names in the world of distillates, for example Luca Gargano from Velier and Vittorio "Gianni" Capovilla. Luca Gargano became known in 2001 through his campaign giving the ultimate definition of Triple A wines (agricoltori, artisti, artigiani - wines based on agriculture, artistry, artisanship). These have been brought back out of the shadows thanks to this leading figure at the head of Velier, the distribution company for wines and spirits established in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix and under Gargano’s leadership since 1983. Vittorio Capovilla has worldwide recognition as one of the best, if not the best, distillers in the world. An emigrant mechanic who took up a technical post in a leading wine-making supply industry, he took the decision 30 years ago to dedicate himself to distillation. The outcome of such love and passion were the two acquavits from Chardonnay and Pinot Nero vinaccia (pressings), which were unveiled at the World Spirit 2006 in Klagenfurt and took the gold medal.
SpiriTS & Co. will be offering a rich programme of parallel events designed to build up the culture of the distillate and of drinking with awareness, encouraging people to get to know Italian grappa. This goal will be pursued through practical seminars, guided tasting sessions, "Puro Spirito" ("Pure Spirit", the tasting point set up within the exhibition), special dinners with Michelin Star chefs. And during the event there will be forums on the themes of: Analizzando lo Spirito dei tempi (Examining the Spirit of the Times) and on Nuove frontiere delle bevande Spiritose (New frontiers for Spirited drinks); these will be taking a look at the current status of the sector, and also as regards new commercial prospects, which can benefit from Trieste’s
position close to the new markets to the east.
This new jewel of Fiera Trieste Spa intends to become a true Salon of top grappas and distillates. And in fact, the public will be able to participate in topical evening events proposing both classic and unusual matches with chocolate and cigars, and will have the opportunity to make direct purchase of products on show.
Through SpiriTS & Co., enterprises and trade operators will also have opportunity to internationalise their businesses through a match-making service being backed by Fiera Trieste, offering tailored meetings set up with Italian and foreign buyers. The event’s goals will benefit from the geographical position of Trieste -crossroads for demand and offer of the new Europe’s market, and increasingly open to the east.
